How has Harper Lee shown the change in the children’s character after the trial?

‘I always thought Maycomb folks were the best folks in the world, least that’s what they seemed like’.

Here we can see that Harper lee has shown how jem has started to grow up and open his eyes to the county that he lives in. Jem was brought up into maycomb society, a very racist society but because he lives under the same roof as atticus he had learn how not tp follow others. After the trial Jem had realised how cruel and severly racist the county he lives in actually is.

‘It was Jems turn to cry. His face was streaked with angry tears’

Harper Lee here is showing how Jem feels towards the trials outcome. Knowing the consequences for showing affection to black people he still crys for Tom Robinson with pure anger.
