Arsenal, a team that was once known as the ‘Invincible’ squad under the likes of Arsene Wenger who has won the BPL (Barclays Premier League) 3 times, FA Cup 5 times and the league cup 5 times. But where is the champion’s league trophy cabinet? Arsenal were on a horrendous drought, they didn’t win a trophy for nine years straight, this was then broken in the 2013/2014 season by winning the FA Cup. Arsenals drought had fans starting to think, should we really be keeping Wenger as our manager or should he just retire? Here are the answers to most all of us Arsenal fans questions.
Arsene Wenger had joined the club in 1996 and looked like he had eyes for the future. Wenger had a different style of strategies to other managers at the time in English football. In Wenger’s first four season he had brought in the likes of Patrick Vieira, Fredrik Ljungberg, Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and many more. These Arsenal players had started of young at the club and fans already started to think that Wenger was bringing in money which was wasted. Little did we know that these players were to become Legends. Wenger proved to the board, players and fans that he could be trusted as manager and could win a lot of trophies for the club by bringing in young signings with great potential such as Robin Van Persie, Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner and many more. But what changed? What was the reason why we started to lose matches and that fans started to turn against what was once known as one of the best clubs at that time?
Arsenals Trophy drought had started in the season 2004/2005. Once Arsenal players were at the top of their peak top teams in Europe started to buy them. Arsenal had stopped winning trophies which meant that top players would start to retire and leave, but because of this no top player would want to come in to the squad. Arsene Wenger is known for signing great young players and he stayed up to that name. Once Wenger started to see the drop of top players he started to bring in youngsters with amazing potential, but were youngster up to the BPL standards? No. The players that were brought in still had a long way to go to get the title of the invincible team again. But this time period has taken too long. After 2007 Arsenal was a team that was mostly looked down upon. People knew that by the end of the season Arsenal wouldn’t win anything and most probably finish 4th like they always did. Amazing talent came and then went off and signed to better team where they knew they could win trophies.
Arsene Wenger has never won the champions league but he is still trying to. Wenger didn’t have any experience players that could help win the BPL and Champions league. Every season (even now) we always qualify for a Champions League spot but never get past the Round of 16. If we keep qualifying and not winning what is the point of even trying. Wenger should get Arsenal into the Europa League so that we actually have a chance of winning something outside of England for the first time. If we qualify for the Europa League and win then we would be able to attract better players and maybe be able to rebuild the team we once were. It isn’t good enough. If Wenger retires and we bring in a new manager it could either go well or bad. For example Manchester United had one of the best managers ever retire and they had brought in Ex Everton manager David Moyes, David Moyes had a terrible first season with Manchester United by making them finish 7th place and making them not qualify for the champions league. Could this happen to Arsenal if Wenger retires? We wouldn’t know unless we try.
Wenger’s time at arsenal is up, he is too old and everyone knows his tactics. We need more experienced defenders, holding midfielders and strikers but Wenger just can’t see that yet. Wenger has only started winning trophies again but other teams our starting to show great potential now. Wenger has to go.
