In this chapter we learn a lot about atticus.
Attics and Uncle Jack have a talk about scout and atticus defending a negro. Scout in the back is listening. A quotation was ‘Many years later I realised he (Atticus) wanted me to hear wvery word he said’. Atticus knew that scout was listening to the conversation the whole time and i think that he wanted her to hear all of the conversation and remeber what he had said, if that was his intention then it worked because she had remebered it many years later.
Another quote that i had found was ‘I hope they trust me enough’. I think atticus had said this because he wanted Jem and Scouts trust in him defending a Negro because he didnt feel like they trusted him enough.

Hello,
You have shown some understanding of Atticus’ feelings here with some useful quotations.

To help explain these quotations further, try to link them to how Atticus is the only white lawyer willing to defend a black man. Think about the segregation in 1930’s America and how this might help your understanding.
